Sometimes what you need is a fresh pair of eyes and an experienced mentor to take your writing to the next level. Our blog offers great suggestions for improving your writing, and the best advice but sometimes, private instruction can provide the insight and advice you need to grow as a writer and develop your project.
Join a small collective of writers committed to learning, growing, and developing their skills in 6 session online course that meet through Zoom. Students submit up to 5 double-spaced pages of their work ahead of time, which are shared with the group. Everyone attends the scheduled Zoom classes for a comprehensive critique session that not only helps each student develop their personal works in progress but includes lectures on the prevailing issues for the group, such as defining style, voice, writing with honesty, and character/story development. Assignments that have been designed to fire-up creativity and challenge the writers to experiment with new approaches to telling a story are provided at the end of each session as inspiration for the following week's submissions.
Learning in a progressive critique group with effective mentorship can be deeply insightful because sometimes we are too close to our own work to see the issues that need to be addressed, but those same issues are clearly evident when we review the work of others. These workshops teach us to "read like a writer", see and adjust weaknesses in a story, and help attendees develop writing skills through respectful, honest feedback given in the spirit of support and furthering your writing education.
The online course includes six live Zoom sessions (approximately 3 hours each) with assignments, support, and an invitation to participate in the Facebook group for inspiration and connection. Students are asked to work on assignments between sessions.
Class limit: 10 students per session. Course fee for 6-week session: $120.00
Next session meets approximately every other week so students have time to work on submissions.
Meetings 10/14, 10/28, 11/4, 11/28, 12/2, 12/16
Jan 2025 session TBA

These writing courses are appropriate for beginners as well as seasoned writers. Feedback and support are tailored to each student's needs depending on where they are in the journey to master writing skills.
Of course, you will get the most out of the class by attending in person and by writing and submitting pieces to put into practice all we address in the course, but as we all know, life can get busy. If you miss an online zoom session, the meeting will be taped and posted on the private Facebook group and you can watch the discussion at your convenience, so you won't miss anything pertinent to your ongoing development as a writer.
Beyond the weekly zoom meeting, each session has a private Facebook group where students post their writing and can interact with one another. Here you can share your insights and suggestions with fellow writers, ask questions and provide support and encouragement.
While learning in a group is highly effective (and the place we recommend everyone start) sometimes we reach point where one on one writing mentorship is needed to push us to the next level.
Students can submit up to 20 pages ahead of time for the instructor to review and analyze, after which they will schedule a one hour zoom meeting to discuss issues with the work and suggestions for improvement.
Private critique and instruction: $190.00 per session.
The best way to improve your writing (and your spiritual awareness) is to actually write. The act of creation can be a form of tantric yoga when you carve out the time to be fully focused and let words and ideas flow in effort to capture your personal truth. Writing as Yoga on the Page provides lots of resources to inspire writing as a framework for self-discovery.
